If you're a business owner looking to outsource your Facebook and Instagram ads, the first question is almost always: What does it cost per month? The honest answer is uncomfortable. The retainer on the price list is only part of it. Meta ads barely work today without fresh videos, and many agencies don't include them in the package at all. Below you'll find documented numbers, a fair comparison and three worked examples you can check yourself.

What Makes Up the Cost of a Facebook Ad Agency

An agency invoice for Meta ads usually has four building blocks:

  1. Monthly management: setting up campaigns, testing audiences, managing budget, reporting.
  2. Creatives: images and, above all, short videos. Often not included, or only if you supply them yourself.
  3. Setup: one-time setup of the ad account, pixel and tracking.
  4. Percentage surcharges: a share of your ad budget, on top of the retainer.

Your actual ad budget, which goes to Meta, still comes on top of all that. If you only compare retainers, you're comparing apples to half an orange.

What the Expert Report Shows About Management

We commissioned an expert report that collects documented offers. It's a sample, not a market study. For ongoing Meta management in Germany, it includes four packages at €570, €735, €1,070 and €1,970 per month, averaging €1,086.25. Several of them also charge 5% of the ad budget or 10% on the portion above €1,000 per month. On videos, one offer explicitly said "creatives supplied by client," another "video not included."

What Videos Cost on Top

For videos with a real person on camera, the expert report analyzed 52 offers in US dollars. The average is 224.42 US dollars per video, which converts to €199.93. The median is 177.50 US dollars (€158.13). If you need new videos every month, it adds up fast: 12 videos at the average price come to €2,399.14 per month.

The Benchmarks: Management Plus Videos per Month

Average management cost plus video price gives a benchmark for each service tier. The video counts match the Plaith packages.

PackagePlaith per month (excl. budget fee)Videos per monthClassic benchmark per monthof which videosDifference per month
Start€799up to 4€1,885.96€799.71€1,086.96
Growth€1,499up to 12€3,485.39€2,399.14€1,986.39
Scale€4,999up to 40€9,083.40€7,997.15€4,084.40

In fairness, two points belong here. First, Plaith videos are AI videos, while the expert report is based on videos with a real person on camera. Whether that's equivalent for you is your call. Second, Plaith adds a budget fee (10% on the first €2,000, 8% up to €5,000, 6% above that). So the package price alone isn't the full price.

An Honest Monthly Comparison

Here's how it looks when you include everything that goes to the service provider each month on both sides:

Package and ad budget per monthPlaith: package + budget feeClassic without surchargesClassic with average surchargeDifference per month
Start, €1,500€949€1,885.96€1,954.71€1,005.71
Growth, €3,000€1,779€3,485.39€3,647.89€1,868.89
Growth, €5,000€1,939€3,485.39€3,772.89€1,833.89
Scale, €10,000€5,739€9,083.40€9,683.40€3,944.40
Scale, €25,000€6,639€9,083.40€10,620.90€3,981.90

"Classic with average surcharge" means: benchmark plus the average percentage surcharge of the four packages in the sample. Not every agency charges a surcharge.

A Fair Calculation: The Same Total Spend on Both Sides

Monthly prices alone don't tell you what's left at the end. So we calculate differently: You have a fixed amount you want to spend in total. How much of it ends up in ads, and how much revenue does that generate at the same ROAS?

How We Run the Comparison

Both sides invest exactly the same total spend. On the Plaith side, it consists of your own ad budget, the setup fee, the package price, the budget fee and, if selected, the Booster. On the classic side, we subtract the cost of management and videos from the same amount. The basis is the benchmark from the expert report (Start €1,885.96, Growth €3,485.39, Scale €9,083.40 per month). The rest goes into ads. We don't include an agency setup fee there. Agency surcharges on the ad budget (for example 5% on everything or 10% on the portion above €1,000 per month, expert report section 4.1) are deliberately not included, so Plaith's lead is, if anything, larger.

Example 1: Small Budget, Start Package (S1)

€1,500 of your own ad budget per month, 12 months, ROAS 3 as an assumption.

S1 · Start · €1,500 own budget/month · Booster €0 · 12 months · ROAS 3 (assumption)PlaithClassic (same total spend)
Total spend (everything you pay)€30,887€30,887

Total ad budget€18,000€8,255.48
Revenue at ROAS 3 (assumption)€54,000€24,766.44
ROPS (revenue ÷ service provider costs)4.191.09
Revenue per euro spent€1.75€0.80
What you keep (revenue minus spend, not profit)€23,113−€6,120.56

This is where the difference is clearest. Of €30,887, the classic model sends €22,631.52 to management and videos. Only €8,255.48 is left for ads. At the same ROAS, "What you keep" then comes to −€6,120.56, versus €23,113 with Plaith. On a small budget, the service provider eats up a large share of your spend.

Example 2: Mid-Size Budget over Two Years (S4)

Growth package, €3,000 own budget per month, 24 months, no Booster, ROAS 5 as an assumption.

S4 · Growth · €3,000 own budget/month · Booster €0 · 24 months · ROAS 5 (assumption)PlaithClassic (same total spend)

Revenue per euro spent€3.10€1.40
What you keep (revenue minus spend, not profit)€243,805€46,533.20

Both sides pay €116,195. Plaith gets €44,195 of it, the classic side €83,649.36. That's why €72,000 goes into ads with Plaith, versus €32,545.64 with the classic model. The gap in "What you keep" is €197,271.80.

Example 3: Large Budget, Scale Package (S6)

€10,000 own budget per month, 12 months, no Booster, conservative assumption of ROAS 3.

S6 · Scale · €10,000 own budget/month · Booster €0 · 12 months · ROAS 3 (assumption)PlaithClassic (same total spend)
Total spend (everything you pay)€190,367€190,367

Revenue per euro spent€1.89€1.28
What you keep (revenue minus spend, not profit)€169,633€53,731.60

Even with a large budget, there's a clear gap: €169,633 vs. €53,731.60. It comes entirely from costs, because ROAS is assumed to be the same on both sides.

What the Numbers Don't Tell You

A worked example is no substitute for reviewing your own case. There are three limits you should know:

  • ROAS is an assumption. Whether your ads reach ROAS 3 or 5 depends on your offer, margin, landing page and market. The expert report says nothing about that.
  • "What you keep" is not profit. Cost of goods, staff and taxes have not been deducted.
  • The services aren't identical. Agencies differ in advice, experience and closeness. The expert report compares quantities and prices, not quality.

What to Look for in an Agency Proposal

  • Are new videos included, and how many per month?
  • Is there a percentage surcharge on the ad budget, and above what threshold?
  • What does setup cost, and how long is the contract?

You'll find the full checklist in the article How to Compare Ad Agency Proposals.

Plaith isn't an agency. It's proprietary software that orchestrates your performance team. Packages can be canceled monthly; the setup fee is non-refundable.

What You Gain When You See All Costs at a Glance

You want to outsource your ads so you can get back to running your business. But every proposal calculates differently. And you don't want to discover costs after three months that weren't written down anywhere.

With the full benchmark, you know before you sign what management plus videos will cost you each month.

What that gets you:

  • Predictability instead of surprises. You know the ballpark up front: €1,885.96, €3,485.39 or €9,083.40 per month for management plus videos. That's the yardstick for every proposal.
  • More advertising for the same money. In S4, at the same spend, €72,000 goes into ads with Plaith, versus €32,545.64 with the classic model. The difference comes entirely from costs.
  • One less vendor. With Plaith, new videos are included in the package. You don't have to find and manage a separate video provider.

Whether it pays off for you depends on your ROAS. It remains an assumption, and "What you keep" is not yet profit.

Objections, Answered Honestly

Before you put proposals side by side, it's worth looking at two objections. Both are natural and deserve an honest answer.

"My agency already includes videos in the price."

Then the video cost is built into the package; it hasn't disappeared. Ask about the number, length and usage rights per month. Then compare the package with the benchmark for management plus 12 videos of €3,485.39 per month.

"AI videos aren't the same as videos with real people."

True. Plaith delivers AI videos, while the expert report evaluates videos with a real person on camera. Our comparison shows costs, not which video performs better. If real faces matter to you, test both.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Facebook ad agency cost per month?

In the expert report's sample, four German Meta management packages cost an average of €1,086.25 per month, excluding videos and your ad budget. With 4, 12 or 40 videos at the average price, that comes to €1,885.96, €3,485.39 or €9,083.40 per month.

Is ad spend included in the agency's price?

No. Your ad budget goes to Meta on top of that. Some agencies also charge a percentage on it.

Is an agency worth it on a small budget?

That depends on your ROAS. In our worked example S1, with a €1,500 budget and ROAS 3, the classic model leaves you with a negative amount. So check carefully how much of your spend actually goes into ads.
