Meta Ads on a Large Budget: Where Money Gets Lost at €10,000 and Up
Daniel Huber, MBAFounder of Plaith

If you put €10,000 or more per month into Meta ads, you think about costs differently. An agency retainer of a few thousand euros seems small at that point. Still, a close look pays off: over two years and with a high budget, even small percentages add up to large amounts.
Meta Ads on a Large Budget: Which Costs Grow and Which Don't
Fixed: monthly retainer, videos, setup. They barely depend on whether you spend €10,000 or €25,000.
Growing: percentage surcharges on the ad budget; at Plaith, the tiered budget fee.
The Plaith budget fee rate drops the higher your budget: 10% on the first €2,000, 8% up to €5,000, 6% above that. At €25,000 per month, that's €1,640, or 6.6%. At this budget, the average surcharge of the agency packages in the expert report is €1,537.50 (6.2%).
| Package and ad budget per month | Plaith: package + budget fee | Classic without surcharges | Classic with average surcharge | Difference per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Start, €1,500 | €949 | €1,885.96 | €1,954.71 | €1,005.71 |
| Growth, €3,000 | €1,779 | €3,485.39 | €3,647.89 | €1,868.89 |
| Growth, €5,000 | €1,939 | €3,485.39 | €3,772.89 | €1,833.89 |
| Scale, €10,000 | €5,739 | €9,083.40 | €9,683.40 | €3,944.40 |
| Scale, €25,000 | €6,639 | €9,083.40 | €10,620.90 | €3,981.90 |
Worked Example S7: Scale, €25,000 Budget with Booster
Scale package, €25,000 own budget per month, Booster with a one-time payment of €25,000, 24 months, ROAS 4 as an assumption.
How We Run the Comparison
Both sides invest exactly the same total spend. On the Plaith side, it consists of your own ad budget, the setup fee, the package price, the budget fee and, if selected, the Booster. On the classic side, we subtract the cost of management and videos from the same amount. The basis is the benchmark from the expert report (Start €1,885.96, Growth €3,485.39, Scale €9,083.40 per month). The rest goes into ads. We don't include an agency setup fee there. Agency surcharges on the ad budget (for example 5% on everything or 10% on the portion above €1,000 per month, expert report section 4.1) are deliberately not included, so Plaith's lead is, if anything, larger.
| S7 · Scale · €25,000 own budget/month · Booster €25,000 · 24 months · ROAS 4 (assumption) | Plaith | Classic (same total spend) |
|---|---|---|
| Total spend (everything you pay) | €789,435 | €789,435 |
| of which to the service provider | €189,435 (incl. Booster €25,000) | €218,001.60 |
| of which own ad budget to the platform | €600,000 | €571,433.40 |
| Booster credit during the period | €60,000 | no leverage |
| Total ad budget | €660,000 | €571,433.40 |
| Revenue at ROAS 4 (assumption) | €2,640,000 | €2,285,733.60 |
| ROPS (revenue ÷ service provider costs) | 13.94 | 10.48 |
| Revenue per euro spent | €3.34 | €2.90 |
| What you keep (revenue minus spend, not profit) | €1,850,565 | €1,496,298.60 |
Both sides spend €789,435. €189,435 goes to Plaith; in the classic model, €218,001.60 goes to management and 40 videos per month. As a result, €660,000 of ad budget stands against €571,433.40. The gap in "What you keep" is €354,266.40.
With Percentage Surcharges
| Classic model, S7 | Ad budget | Service provider costs | Total spend | Revenue | What you keep |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plaith (for comparison) | €660,000 | €189,435 | €789,435 | €2,640,000 | €1,850,565 |
| C: same total spend (main comparison) | €571,433.40 | €218,001.60 | €789,435 | €2,285,733.60 | €1,496,298.60 |
| C with percentage surcharges | €538,384.37 | €251,050.63 | €789,435 | €2,153,537.48 | €1,364,102.48 |
| A: same budget, one-time amount 1:1 into ads | €625,000 | €218,001.60 | €843,001.60 | €2,500,000 | €1,656,998.40 |
| B: like A plus percentage surcharges | €625,000 | €256,464.10 | €881,464.10 | €2,500,000 | €1,618,535.90 |
If you factor in the average surcharges, an extra €33,049.03 goes to the agency in the classic model. With a large budget, that's the biggest single item after the retainer.
What the Booster Brings with a Large Budget
| S7 with and without Booster | Plaith with Booster | Plaith without Booster | Classic (same spend) with | Classic without |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Total spend | €789,435 | €760,835 | €789,435 | €760,835 |
| Total ad budget | €660,000 | €600,000 | €571,433.40 | €542,833.40 |
| Revenue | €2,640,000 | €2,400,000 | €2,285,733.60 | €2,171,333.60 |
| What you keep (not profit) | €1,850,565 | €1,639,165 | €1,496,298.60 | €1,410,498.60 |
| Extra left over thanks to the Booster | €211,400 | €85,800 |
The Booster increases the ad budget by €60,000. "What you keep" rises by €211,400 with Plaith.
Worked Example S5: Growth, €10,000 Budget, 12 Months
Not every large budget needs the largest package. If you advertise one to three offers, Growth may be enough. Example S5: €10,000 own budget, Booster with a one-time payment of €10,000, 12 months, ROAS 4.
| S5 · Growth · €10,000 own budget/month · Booster €10,000 · 12 months · ROAS 4 (assumption) | Plaith | Classic (same total spend) |
|---|---|---|
| Total spend (everything you pay) | €159,087 | €159,087 |
| of which to the service provider | €39,087 (incl. Booster €10,000) | €41,824.68 |
| of which own ad budget to the platform | €120,000 | €117,262.32 |
| Booster credit during the period | €12,000 | no leverage |
| Total ad budget | €132,000 | €117,262.32 |
| Revenue at ROAS 4 (assumption) | €528,000 | €469,049.28 |
| ROPS (revenue ÷ service provider costs) | 13.51 | 11.21 |
| Revenue per euro spent | €3.32 | €2.95 |
| What you keep (revenue minus spend, not profit) | €368,913 | €309,962.28 |
Here the two sides are closer together: €368,913 vs. €309,962.28. That's typical for large budgets with a small package. Fixed costs are low relative to the budget, and ROAS determines almost everything. In twelve months, only half of the Booster credit counts, too.
| ROAS (assumption) | ROPS Plaith | ROPS classic | Revenue per € Plaith | Revenue per € classic | What you keep Plaith | What you keep classic |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 10.13 | 8.41 | €2.49 | €2.21 | €236,913 | €192,699.96 |
| 4 | 13.51 | 11.21 | €3.32 | €2.95 | €368,913 | €309,962.28 |
| 5 | 16.89 | 14.02 | €4.15 | €3.69 | €500,913 | €427,224.60 |
Which Package Fits a Large Budget?
At Plaith, the package isn't based on the budget, but on the number of offers and how many videos you need:
- Growth (€1,499 per month): up to 3 topic campaigns at the same time, up to 12 new AI videos per month, up to 30 seconds.
- Scale (€4,999 per month): up to 10 topic campaigns, up to 40 new AI videos per month, up to 60 seconds, plus 60 minutes of strategy per week and a dedicated point of contact.
The budget fee is the same in all packages. So it doesn't decide which package you choose.
What to Watch for with a Large Budget
- Calculate surcharges over the term, not just per month.
- Secure a steady supply of creatives. High budgets need lots of new creatives, or your ads will fatigue.
- Insist on reporting. Weekly reports with inquiries show early on whether more budget brings more results.
- Scale cautiously. More budget doesn't automatically maintain ROAS. Run the numbers with lower assumptions too.
- Use the same spend as the yardstick. Always compare proposals at the same total spend.
What the Booster Is
The Booster is an add-on module. Your ad budget then runs through Plaith instead of going directly to Meta. We pass our purchasing terms on to you as an ad budget package: for a one-time payment, you get one tenth of it as additional ad credit every month for 24 months, on top of your own budget. That turns €10,000 into €1,000 per month and €24,000 over the term. The credit is only valid with an active Plaith contract, is non-transferable, is not paid out in cash and is only used for ad delivery. If you cancel, you get the one-time payment back minus the credit already delivered, with a minimum of €0. If the platform's purchasing terms change, Plaith can end running packages with 30 days' notice; the same refund rule then applies. You'll clarify the exact terms in a call.
What You Gain with a Large Budget
You move a lot of money through Meta ads and need to be able to justify where it goes. Small percentages barely stand out in the monthly report, but they add up.
You keep track of every euro, even as your budget keeps growing.
What you concretely get out of it:
- More budget in ads. In S7, at the same spend, €660,000 goes into ads with Plaith, versus €571,433.40 with the classic model.
- Visible surcharges. Average surcharges would cost an extra €33,049.03 in S7. You can take this number into any negotiation.
- A dedicated point of contact. In the Scale package, you have a dedicated person and 60 minutes of strategy per week.
With a large budget, ROAS can drop. So plan with a conservative assumption.
Objections, Answered Honestly
If you move a lot of budget, you have your own objections. Three of them, with honest answers:
"At my budget, the retainer doesn't matter."
The retainer doesn't, but the surcharges do. They grow with every euro of budget. Over 24 months, a few percent turns into large amounts. The article Agency Charging a Percentage of Your Ad Spend shows how it adds up.
"More budget brings proportionally more revenue."
You shouldn't count on that. As budget rises, ROAS can drop. That's why ROAS 4 in S7 is only an assumption. Run the numbers with a lower value too.
"I need a dedicated point of contact."
You get one in the Scale package. Ask every provider who manages your campaigns and how often you'll talk. That belongs in the comparison just as much as the price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a service provider more worthwhile with a large budget than a small one?
In relative terms, yes, because fixed costs become smaller relative to the budget. But percentage surcharges grow along with it. Calculate both over the entire term.
Does ROAS stay stable when I increase the budget?
Not automatically. More budget often also reaches less relevant people. That's why we always calculate with several ROAS assumptions.
Do I need the Scale package with a €25,000 budget?
Not necessarily. At Plaith, the package depends on the number of offers and how many videos you need, not on the budget.
